Cost and budget

What is the average kitchen remodel cost in Los Angeles?

Most Master Kitchen projects in Los Angeles cost between $20,000 and $100,000. A cabinets and countertops project typically runs $20,000 to $35,000, a full remodel with layout changes $35,000 to $75,000, and a full remodel with layout changes and custom cabinetry $75,000 to $100,000 or more.

How much does a 10x10 kitchen remodel cost in Los Angeles?

Scope matters more than square footage. A 10x10 kitchen that keeps its layout and gets new cabinets and countertops typically falls in the $20,000 to $35,000 range. If everything in the room is replaced, it becomes a full remodel in the $35,000 to $75,000 range.

Why do kitchen remodels cost more in Los Angeles than elsewhere?

Skilled labor costs more here, most full remodels need city or county permits, California energy rules apply, and many older Los Angeles homes need electrical or plumbing upgrades once the walls are open.

What is the biggest factor in the cost of a kitchen remodel?

Two things: whether the layout changes, and the cabinetry. Moving plumbing, gas or walls adds the most cost, and cabinets are usually the largest single line in the budget, often 30 to 40% of the total.

How can I lower the cost without lowering the quality?

Keep the existing layout, choose a cabinet program instead of full-custom cabinetry, and choose quartz over marble or quartzite. A design-build team can also show you where spending changes the result and where it does not.

Does the price change after work starts?

You receive a detailed estimate before any work begins, and the number we quote is the number we honor. Changes you ask for after signing are priced and approved in writing first.

Does a kitchen remodel add value to a home in Los Angeles?

Yes. The kitchen is the room most buyers look at first, and an updated kitchen helps a home sell. For resale, clean and widely appealing choices hold their value better than highly personal ones.

Timeline

How long does a kitchen remodel take?

A full kitchen remodel in Los Angeles usually takes 5–6 weeks. At Master Kitchen the average is 2–3 weeks of work in your home, because design, materials and scheduling are handled by one team and every decision is made before work starts. A cabinets-and-countertops project takes 3–7 days on site, and full-custom cabinetry takes 6–12 weeks to fabricate. You get a written schedule before work begins.

Why is Master Kitchen faster than the usual kitchen remodel?

Design, materials, construction and installation are handled by one team, and every decision is made before work starts. Nothing waits on a separate designer, cabinet shop or stone yard. That is how a full remodel that usually takes 5–6 weeks averages 2–3 weeks with us.

When will I know my schedule?

Before work begins. Your proposal includes a written schedule showing when each phase happens, from demolition and rough-in to cabinet delivery, countertop template and finish work.

What usually delays a kitchen remodel?

Late ordering. Cabinets, stone and appliances all have lead times, and a project stalls when one of them is ordered after demolition. We settle the selections and place the orders first.

How long does custom cabinetry take?

Full-custom cabinetry takes 6–12 weeks to fabricate. Larger or more complex builds can take longer, and your fabrication schedule is included in your proposal.

Working with us

What happens at the free consultation?

A designer visits your home, measures the kitchen, and talks through your goals, style and budget. Afterwards you receive a design, a 3D preview and a detailed estimate. There is no cost and no obligation.

Is the consultation really free?

Yes. The in-home consultation, the measurements and the guidance cost nothing and carry no obligation.

Can I see my kitchen in 3D before work starts?

Yes. Every project includes a realistic 3D rendering so you can refine the layout, materials and finishes before a single cabinet is built.

Who is my point of contact during the remodel?

One project manager. They coordinate the schedule, the materials, every trade and the communication, from the contract to the final walkthrough.

Do I need to know what I want before I call?

No. Many clients start with a kitchen they are tired of and little else. A designer helps you work out the layout, the materials and the budget, and you see it in 3D before committing.

What if I want to change something after signing?

Changes to the scope, materials or design after the contract is signed are written up as a change order, with any effect on cost and schedule shown, and you approve it before the work is done.

What we do

What is included in a full kitchen remodel?

A full Master Kitchen remodel includes design, a 3D preview, demolition, construction, electrical, plumbing, cabinets, countertops, backsplash, flooring, painting, installation and a final walkthrough, all coordinated by one team with one point of contact.

Can I replace just my cabinets and countertops?

Yes. If your layout already works, we can replace the cabinets, countertops and hardware without a full structural remodel. These projects typically start around $20,000.

Do you build custom cabinets?

Yes. Alongside our cabinet programs, we build full-custom cabinetry to your exact dimensions, wood species, finish and door profile. Custom fabrication typically takes 6–12 weeks.

Do you remodel bathrooms or build additions?

No. Kitchens are all we do. A kitchen project can extend to the rooms connected to it, such as a bar, a pantry or a laundry room finished in the same cabinetry.

Do you work with my existing layout or redesign it?

Either. If the layout works, keeping it is the most cost-effective route. If it does not, we can move plumbing, gas lines and walls, with the permits and structural work that requires.

Cabinets and countertops

What cabinet styles do you offer?

Shaker, Slim Shaker, Double Slim Shaker and frameless European flat-panel doors, in painted colors and wood finishes. Those are a sample: we carry many more styles and finishes and show them at your consultation. Beyond those, we build full-custom cabinetry to your exact space.

Should I choose a cabinet program or full-custom cabinets?

For most kitchens, a cabinet program gives you the look you want for less. Full-custom is worth it when the room has unusual dimensions or angles, or when you want a wood, finish or door profile no program offers.

What is the best countertop material for a kitchen?

Quartz is the most popular choice in Los Angeles: durable, non-porous and consistent, with no sealing. Granite and quartzite are strong natural-stone alternatives. Marble is beautiful but softer and more porous, so it needs more care.

Can I see the materials in person before I decide?

Yes. You review samples with your designer, and every stone is reviewed in person at the yard. The slab you approve is the slab installed in your home.

What hardware finishes are available?

Matte black, oil-rubbed bronze, brushed nickel, polished chrome and brass, across bar pulls, T-bar pulls, cup pulls and knobs, with soft-close hinges and drawer systems behind the doors. We bring the sample boards to your consultation.

Permits and older homes

Do I need a permit to remodel a kitchen in Los Angeles?

Yes, if the work involves electrical, plumbing, gas or structural changes, which most full remodels do. Cosmetic updates such as paint, hardware or a countertop swap without plumbing changes generally do not need one.

Do you handle permits?

Yes. Most full kitchen remodels in Los Angeles need permits, especially when electrical, plumbing, gas lines or walls change. As a licensed California contractor, Master Kitchen pulls and manages the City or County permits and inspections as part of your project.

What is Title 24 and does it apply to my kitchen?

Title 24 is California's energy code. It applies to kitchen renovations and covers lighting efficiency, ventilation and appliance efficiency. The updated 2025 standards took effect on January 1, 2026.

What problems do you find in older Los Angeles homes?

Once the walls are open, older homes often show outdated wiring, an electrical panel too small for a modern kitchen, corroded galvanized plumbing, or framing that does not meet current code. This is why a contingency of 10 to 15% is worth holding.

Why should I avoid a contractor who skips permits?

Unpermitted work can lead to stop-work orders, insurance problems and a disclosure issue when you sell. A contractor who lists permits as optional is planning to work without them.
