Kitchen remodeling in Bel Air.

We design, build and install kitchens for Bel Air's large hillside homes, including the prep kitchen and the cabinetry around the main room. At this scale a remodel usually pairs layout changes with full-custom cabinetry and costs $75,000 to $100,000 or more. The cabinetry takes 6–12 weeks to fabricate.

Kitchens in Bel Air.

Bel Air was laid out in the 1920s as a neighborhood of large homes on winding hillside roads, and it has been rebuilt continuously since. One street can hold a period estate, a mid-century house built for the view and a new contemporary home several times the size of either.

What they share is scale. Kitchens here are large rooms with long cabinet runs, big islands and professional appliances, and many homes add a second working kitchen or pantry. In the older houses the kitchen was designed as a back-of-house room and sits apart from where the family spends its time.

What a remodel in Bel Air has to allow for.

Long runs and large islands
Cabinetry at this scale shows every joint. Grain direction, panel sizes and stone seams are drawn in the design, before fabrication.
Appliances that set the layout
Wide ranges, column refrigeration and built-in coffee and wine units decide cabinet dimensions, electrical load and ventilation.
A second kitchen
A prep kitchen or pantry is planned with the main kitchen so the materials and the workflow connect.
Hillside access
On narrow canyon and ridge roads, slab deliveries, cabinet trucks and crew parking are scheduled so the street stays clear.

Permits in Bel Air.

Bel Air is a neighborhood of the City of Los Angeles, so permits come from the Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety (LADBS). Its Westside counter is the West Los Angeles Development Services Center at 1828 Sawtelle Boulevard. LADBS issues an express permit, with no plan check, for a residential kitchen remodel that makes no structural changes. Removing or moving walls, which is common when a closed estate kitchen is opened to the family room, goes through plan check first. Plumbing, electrical and ventilation work carry their own permits.

The scope that usually fits.

Standard cabinet sizes rarely suit a kitchen of this scale, so Bel Air projects tend toward full-custom cabinetry, drawn and built for the room. With layout changes and premium stone, that is our top range: $75,000 to $100,000 or more. A smaller kitchen, or a second one, can be a full kitchen remodel with our catalog doors at $35,000 to $75,000.

Questions from Bel Air homeowners.

Who issues kitchen remodel permits in Bel Air?

LADBS. Bel Air is part of the City of Los Angeles, and the department's Westside office is the West Los Angeles Development Services Center at 1828 Sawtelle Boulevard. A kitchen remodel with no structural changes qualifies for an express permit, and moving walls requires plan check. Master Kitchen takes the project through either.

Can you build a prep kitchen or pantry along with the main kitchen?

Yes. A kitchen project can extend to the rooms connected to it. In our West Hollywood project the same oak and stone continue from the kitchen into the bar and the laundry room, so the rooms read as one.

How long does custom cabinetry take for a large kitchen?

Full-custom cabinetry takes 6–12 weeks to fabricate, and larger or more complex builds can take longer. Your fabrication schedule is written into your proposal, alongside the schedule for the work in the home.
