Kitchen remodeling in West Hollywood, where we are based.

Our office is at 855 N Croft Ave, and the flagship project on this site is a West Hollywood kitchen. For a house, a full kitchen remodel typically costs $35,000 to $75,000, and the work in the home averages 2–3 weeks. In a condominium that keeps its layout, new cabinets and countertops cost $20,000 to $35,000 and take 3–7 days on site.

Kitchens in West Hollywood.

West Hollywood packs very different housing into a small city. In the Norma Triangle the houses are small single-family homes from the 1910s and 1920s, on small lots and narrow streets. West Hollywood West has similar older houses, along with enough much larger new ones that the city adopted design rules for the neighborhood.

The original kitchens in the bungalows are compact, closed rooms. The new houses have large open kitchens. In our West Hollywood project the kitchen runs flat-panel light oak from floor to ceiling around a stone waterfall island, and the same oak and stone carry into the bar and the laundry room.

Much of the city lives in condominiums and apartments. In a condominium the kitchen's footprint is set by the plumbing stack and the walls you share, so the gain comes from better cabinetry, storage and stone, not from moving the room.

What a remodel in West Hollywood has to allow for.

Building rules
Condominium associations usually set work hours, ask for the contractor's insurance certificate and want the elevator reserved for deliveries. Those rules shape the schedule.
Shared shut-offs
In many buildings the water can only be turned off for a whole stack, with notice to the neighbors.
Small rooms in the bungalows
Opening a compact kitchen to the dining room often involves a structural wall, and a permit with plan review.
Parking
Street parking is by permit in much of the city, so deliveries and debris removal are arranged ahead.

Permits in West Hollywood.

West Hollywood is an independent city. Its Building & Safety Division, part of the Community Development Department, reviews plans, issues permits and inspects the work. Applications go through the city's online Permitting and License Portal, and the division publishes its own handout for residential kitchen remodels. Construction hours are 8am to 7pm, with only limited interior work on Saturdays and none on Sundays or city holidays. Addresses at the edges of West Hollywood are sometimes in the City of Los Angeles, where LADBS is the permit office, so the first thing we confirm is which city the property is in.

The scope that usually fits.

The right scope depends on the building. In a condominium, where the plumbing and the walls stay put, new cabinets and countertops for $20,000 to $35,000 are often all the room needs. In a house there is more freedom: opening a bungalow kitchen is a full kitchen remodel at $35,000 to $75,000, and building out a large one with full-custom cabinetry runs $75,000 to $100,000 or more.

Questions from West Hollywood homeowners.

Who issues kitchen remodel permits in West Hollywood?

The City of West Hollywood's Building & Safety Division, through the city's online Permitting and License Portal. West Hollywood is its own city, so LADBS is not involved unless the property turns out to be across the line in Los Angeles. Master Kitchen files the application and handles the inspections.

Can you remodel a kitchen in a West Hollywood condominium?

Yes. The layout usually stays where it is, because the plumbing stack and the shared walls cannot move, so the project is new cabinetry, countertops, backsplash, lighting and appliances. New cabinets and countertops alone cost $20,000 to $35,000 and take 3–7 days on site. The association's rules on work hours, insurance and elevator use are built into the schedule.
